چکیده

In the framework of the Chern-Simons gravity proposed by Witten, a transition amplitude of a torus universe in 2+1 dimensional quantum gravity is computed. This amplitude has the desired properties as a probability amplitude of the quantum mechanics of a torus universe, namely, it has a peak on the ”classical orbit” and it satisfies the Shrödinger equation of the 2+1 dimentional gravity. The discussion is given that the classical orbit dominance of the amplitude is not altered by taking the modular invariance into account and that this amplitude can serve as a covariant transition amplitude in a particular sense. A set of the modular covariant wavefunctions is also constructed and they are shown to be equivalent with the weight-1/2 Maass forms. e-mail address: [email protected]

Erratum: (2+1)-dimensional Chern-Simons gravity as a Dirac square root

For simple enough spatial topologies, at least four approaches to (2 + 1)-dimensional quantum gravity have been proposed: Wheeler-DeWitt quantization, canonical quantization in Arnowitt-Deser-Misner (ADM) variables on reduced phase space, Chern-Simons quantization, and quantization in terms of Ashtekar-Rovelli-Smolin loop variables. An important problem is to understand the relationships among ...

Sl(2,r) Chern-simons Theories with Rational Charges and 2-dimensional Conformal Field Theories

We present a hamiltonian quantization of the SL(2, R) 3-dimensional ChernSimons theory with fractional coupling constant k = s/r on a space manifold with torus topology in the “constrain-first” framework. By generalizing the “Weyl-odd” projection to the fractional charge case, we obtain multi-components holomorphic wave functions whose components are the Kac-Wakimoto characters of the modular i...

Chern-Simons Quantization of (2+1)-Anti-De Sitter Gravity on a Torus

Chern-Simons formulation of 2+1 dimensional Einstein gravity with a negative cosmological constant is investigated when the spacetime has the topology R× T 2. The physical phase space is shown to be a direct product of two sub-phase spaces each of which is a non-Hausdorff manifold plus a set with nonzero codimensions. Spacetime geometrical interpretation of each point in the phase space is also...

Dilaton gravity (with a Gauss-Bonnet term) derived from five-dimensional Chern-Simons gravity

We study the problem of boundary terms and boundary conditions for Chern-Simons gravity in five dimensions. We show that under reasonable boundary conditions one finds an effective field theory at the four-dimensional boundary described by dilaton gravity with a Gauss-Bonnet term. The coupling of matter is also discussed. The existing link between three-dimensional Chern-Simons theory and two-d...

Topology Change in ISO(2,1) Chern-Simons Gravity

In 2+1 dimensional gravity, a dreibein and the compatible spin connection can represent a space-time containing a closed spacelike surface Σ only if the associated SO(2,1) bundle restricted to Σ has the same non-triviality (Euler class) as that of the tangent bundle of Σ. We impose this bundle condition on each external state of Witten’s topology-changing amplitude. The amplitude is non-vanishi...
